This workshop aims to bring together scholars working on discrimination based on social class, broadly conceived. This form of discrimination is challenging to study due to its subtle nature, and therefore likely to be underappreciated. This workshop seeks to discuss shortcomings in the existing literature by considering the challenges encountered when studying discrimination based on social class, including the complex conceptualisation of social class, the theoretical explanations for this type of discrimination, and how to design studies to uncover it. It also aims to provide a forum for scholars to share their research and ideas, and to explore ways to potentially ameliorate discrimination based on social class. The workshop intends to gather 10 – 12 scholars, who have made significant contributions to work on social stratification and discrimination. The hope is to create a network of scholars who are dedicated to exploring and advancing knowledge on discrimination based on social class.
