To complete the PhD study programme in Social Sciences and Business Stefan Boye presents his PhD dissertation, giving a public lecture followed by a defence.

Why is a concept of managerial autonomy in public organizations important, what is specifically “public” in the proposed concept, and to what extent can the concept and findings
about its antecedents be generalized?
