Michael Bang Petersen’s research into the behaviour and attitudes among Danes during the COVID-19 pandemic became an important touchstone in the government’s efforts to manage the pandemic in the best possible way. Now, the professor of political science is honoured for his “extensive contributions in a central position” during the pandemic by being appointed Knight of the Order of Dannebrog.

"I am very pleased with this recognition of the work done not just by me, but by the entire HOPE project throughout the pandemic. To many people, it might not have seemed obvious that a research project based in the humanities and social sciences could play an important role during a major health crisis. For this reason, I hope this formal recognition may serve as an example of the general societal importance of knowledge on communication and behaviour,” says Michael Bang Petersen.
