Last Friday, April 26, Lucilla Losi successfully defended her PhD dissertation on “Hidden Engagements: Exploring Europeans’ Public (Dis)Engagement with Science”.

Lucilla’s dissertation explores the role of socio-demographic characteristics for public engagement with science, with a heightened focus on those that are considered not engaged based on commonly held conceptions. As such, the dissertation focuses on the public in public engagement with science and the meaning that belonging to a particular socio-demographic group implies for engagement and mechanisms that can exclude citizens from science.
