Profile

As a nurse and scholar, my empirical research and theoretical work are driven by a deep commitment to understanding patients' and relatives’ perspectives on illness to improve care. With a strong focus on well-being, dignity, and respect, I integrate patient perspectives to enhance care practices. I am particularly dedicated to improving care opportunities for older people, addressing their unique needs, and promoting their dignity and well-being while they live at home.

Research

I research patients' experiences of recovery post-discharge, homecare nursing, and patient involvement in municipal settings, with a focus on ethical and methodological considerations in qualitative health research. My work explores the existential dimensions of illness, hospital-to-home transitions, and phenomenological and hermeneutic approaches in nursing. Using qualitative methods, I aim to humanize healthcare by integrating the perspectives of patients and older people to advance person-centered care.

Teaching activities

As degree programme director, I have the pedagogical responsibility for the MSc in Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing programmes and the professional Master’s programme in Clinical Nursing. I teach nursing theory, patient perspectives and qualitative research methods, particularly phenomenology and hermeneutics. I integrate my research into teaching and supervise MSc and PhD students, connecting theory, research and clinical practice

Collaborations

I collaborate with national and international researchers in nursing, medicine and public health, and with municipalities on home nursing and hospital-to-home transitions. I have worked with European colleagues in InnovateDignity and currently in the EU founded project CARE-CDS. I co-supervise PhD projects at Nord University and Agder University. I also participate in the APN-EDU Nordic/Baltic Network and the European Academy of Caring Science.

Consultancy

Drawing on my research, I contribute to Danish health authorities and the Danish Nurses’ Association on patient perspectives, community nursing and hospital-to-home transitions.

Job responsibilities

I lead research projects, develop research proposals and apply for funding. I supervise PhD students and chair or serve on assessment committees for PhD theses and academic appointments. I am also scientific editor of Klinisk Sygepleje, review manuscripts for international journals and present research at conferences.
