Who determines the agenda in modern politics? Is it the media? Or the politicians? Why does it seem so difficult to introduce real democracy in some countries? How does the global terror threat influence use of military power in the international society? If you consider studying political science, you must take a strong interest in society in general, and you must like looking at the same topic from different angles. At the Department of Political Science, you will form part of a strong academic environment, where teaching of students is given a high priority. You will be taught by some of the best political scientists who will ensure that the current teaching is based on the most recent knowledge on politics and social studies.
The science of politics
The main subject at Political Science is politology; the science of politics. You will gain insight into society, the political system and the interaction between political leaders, organizations, social conditions and citizens. You will also learn about political theory, sociology, law, economics and management, international relations, public administration and research method. At Master’s level, you can specialize in particular topics of special interest, such as the Third World, the Welfare State or governing power in a modern democracy.
Complex organizational and political issues
First of all, you will gain a range of methodical and analytic tools that will enable you to assess and analyze complex organizational and political issues. At the Department of Political Science, you will become a specialist in being a generalist. You will achieve a broad range of skills that are applicable to many different contexts. The programme in political science is a general education, which will provide you with profound theoretical insight about society in general that you can draw on for the rest of your life.
