  • HEIRRI - Higher Education Institutions & Responsible Research and Innovation
The aim of HEIRRI is to contribute to the integration of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) within the formal and informal education of future scientists, engineers and other professionals involved in research and innovation processes. HEIRRI considers RRI as a  transformative, critical and radical concept. HEIRRI will create and share a stock-taking inventory of RRI teaching activities, which will inform the development of RRI Training programs and formative materials, offering the students knowledge and skills to develop viable solutions to specific problems related to R&I, integrating theory and practice. They will be designed for the different HEI educational levels (undergraduate, MD and PhD, summer courses and MOOC), mainly based on Problem Based Learning methodology, and supported by multimedia materials (videos and microvideos, 2.0 materials, etc). A total of 10 different RRI courses will be piloted across European higher education institutions.

  • PE2020 - Public Engagement  Innovations for Horizon 2020
PE2020 aims to identify, analyse and refine innovative public engagement tools and instruments for dynamic science governance. It builds on the MASIS project (2010-2012), but provides a deeper analysis of engagement tools and instruments through a systemic and contextual perspective. PE2020 will create new knowledge about trends in the field of public engagement in science through conceptual analyses, building an inventory of engagement innovation, piloting engagement practices, and developing a toolkit for evaluating and transferring successful practices.

  • Res-AGorA - Responsible Research and Innovation in a Distributed Anticipatory Governance Frame. A Constructive Socio-normative Approach
The aim of Res-AGorA is to develop a normative and comprehensive governance framework for Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). This will be a contribution to the EU ambition of becoming a genuine Innovation Union by 2020 striving for excellent science, a competitive industry and a better society without compromising on sustainability goals as well as ethically acceptable and socially desirable conditions. The goal of the Rea-AGorA project will be achieved through extensive research about existing RRI governance across different scientific technological areas, continuous monitoring of RRI trends and developments in selected countries, and constructive negotiations and deliberation between key stakeholders. This comprehensive empirical work will be the building blocks of the creation of a governance framework for RRI.

  • R-Quest
The Centre for Research Quality and Policy Impact Studies (R-QUEST) constitutes an 8-year commitment to explore the nature and mechanisms of research quality – funded by the RCN FORINNPOL initiative. The centre will address three closely related questions:
    · What is research quality? How are notions of research quality negotiated, established and practiced, and what are the mechanisms through which these notions affect policy?
     · What are the drivers of high quality research, and what is the role of policy in developing outstanding research?
     · What are the effects of high quality research on the society?
Kaare Aagaard leads one of the work packages focusing on studies of national research performance.
