Social life for exchange students

Coming to a foreign country can be both exciting and difficult. In order to help students settle down and get to know student life in Aarhus, the exchange student will be met by a mentor upon arrival. A mentor is a fellow student at the Department of Political Science who will introduce the student to his/her new home, the university and to the other exchange students visiting the Department of Political Science that semester.

After the introduction by the mentor it is up to the student to get engaged in the social activities in Aarhus. Social life for exchange students in Aarhus is generally centred around the Århus International Student Society (located at Studenterhus Århus), which arranges a wide range of events, courses etc. for international students. Read more about the International Student Society at their website: www.studenterhusaarhus.dk/?q=en

At Political Science the student organisation Politologisk Forening (PF) arranges parties and voluntary lectures of current interest. Every semester PF arranges at least three parties and two or three café evenings where you can meet fellow students (and possibly professors) over a beer or a soda. Every Friday, PF and the student organisations at the departments of Law and Economics organise a Friday Bar, where students from the three departments hang out and plan the activities for the weekend.

The University of Aarhus has a sports union, a choir, a film club and a forum for religious students. These activities can all be joined by exchange students. If you would like to know more about these activities ask your mentor upon arrival or take a look here www.au.dk/en/tilknyt/studorg.htm

Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and outside the university there is a multitude of different activities to attend. Different sports clubs can provide plenty of exercise, three cinemas, a number of theatres, art museums and galleries should satisfy most students culturally, a thriving nightlife with plenty of cafés and discos will keep you busy at night and the nature surrounding Aarhus is perfect for a quiet moment.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!
